For the last few years, the primary focus of artsciencespirit.com has been health-centered, with a few of life's highs and lows thrown in, and a long period of hibernation as we weathered the pandemic storm and new levels of isolation. I now find it necessary to redirect my focus somewhat, to "lighten up" (or delve more deeply into the darkness at times, depending on the situation), and with this aim, found myself being drawn in directions that were "a little bit witchy" - a theme I've been enjoying incorporating into my instagram, pinterest, facebook, and blog posts. Although it started out kind of jokingly, I have been surprised by the meaningful turn this pursuit seems to be taking. Goddess Spirituality is here, and the choice to embrace it is yours.
Beautiful oracle card decks for daily inspiration and focus; a great gift idea too!
Candles are a traditional way to incorporate a little magic into your life, bring awareness to the sacred, and symbolize hope, love or remembrance.
An excerpt in a post by Hay House Publishing was all it took to capture my interest in the work of Phyllis Curott, and barely a week later I have read three of her books. I am now convinced that if you are ready to delve into the mysteries of Wicca, she is the witch to follow. Beautifully written stories of her own remarkable experiences, and explanations of what witchcraft is - and as importantly, is not - help to dissolve the societal prejudices that have lasted since the dark ages. I highly recommend starting here. Below: some of the herbs recommended for your spells.

Who among us doesn't long for a more magical life? The rampant desire for magic shows up in the overwhelming popularity of fantasy novels, movies and games from Harry Potter to Twilight, to the many shows about witches popping up on your streaming platforms - people need magic! I think there's a little big of magic in people's decisions to get tattoos, special jewelry, and just the right kind of clothing that makes you feel like yourself. There is magic in wanting to free ourselves from the constraints of many a modern workplace, experience LIFE, freedom, nature and passion. I fully encourage you to find the magic in life, in whatever ways appeal to your unique sensibilities, and use it to be a force for good in the world. Start in whatever little ways you can, here, today. Incorporate magical touches in your wardrobe, your kitchen and home decor. Place little magical reminders wherever your focus frequently lands and start to shift your energies one intention at a time. Embrace the enchantment in everyday life.
I LOVE mandalas. I purchased the beautiful blue mandala pendant (above, right) after chasing it around the world - I first ordered it from one of those shops on Facebook but it never arrived. I then wised up to the fact that a lot of those shops get their merchandise from Alibaba or Ali Express in China, and managed to track it down myself (for a lot cheaper than the original purchase). I have since realized that almost everything is available on Amazon now, and voila! Here you are, may your online shopping experience go a bit easier than mine sometimes has :))

Do some esoteric reading online for free: Science of Mind Archives Zodiacal Course by Samael Aun Weor The Gnosis Archive HP Blavatsky Rudolph Steiner Archive Finding Your Passion Through Sacred Geometry The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace T. Wattles
As you know, the theory behind artsciencespirit revolves around the sacred balance between art-science-spirit or mind-body-soul that underlies our reality, whether we are aware of it or not. My interest in the spiritual realm was first peaked in adolescence, leading me to read about ESP and other such mysterious phenomena. At some point I had a dream that such powers could be mine if I wished, but in the dream I could not control them and was afraid, leading to a retreat from such interests for a number of years. Instead I explored Christianity for a time, studied anthropology, psychology and sociology as an undergrad student, and only slowly returned to my interest in the mysterious and mystical, following life's serendipitous synchronicities... I found myself ever pulled in seemingly different directions. I wanted to be a writer, but only about things that were meaningful; I wanted to understand my own emotional state, but didn't believe that psychology could be viewed outside of cultural context; I also loved art and had developed a certain amount of proficiency, but didn't want to disappear into a sea of black-clad young artists (especially as I loved to wear black, naturally)... Eventually I discovered and sought training in art therapy, and finally had to let go of any previous religious ties. Around the same time, I met a best friend who had very similar interests to mine, and over time she introduced me to some of the most esoteric literature I've ever encountered. From Blavatsky, to A Course in Miracles, and beyond (the adventure continues to this day) I was blessed to discover a fellow traveler on this journey of discovery. I highly recommend trying to find a kindred soul to help further your progress, or at least be open to their appearance. I have carefully selected a number of beautiful and inspiring items for this page designed to help increase focus on mystery, balance, and awe. Some of these will help us connect more with the Earth, others with Spirit. Follow your heart in deciding on what appeals most to you. As always, I encourage you all to continue on your own voyage of discovery; there are so many resources available, online (see examples listed above); at your local library; or invest in some of the classics (further recommendations can be found on our Book page). Bring some elements of nature into your home and work spaces to help bridge the gap we have created between ourselves and the natural world; seek the truth that exists in the energies all around us - I believe that anything that helps us focus on what matters in life can only be good. And, if such exploration helps you rise above the mundane and expand your mind, all the better. |

Inflammation, pain, stress, and problems sleeping are all problems that may benefit from a consistent earthing/grounding practice to restore the body's natural state. In our frantic, modern, technology-obsessed lives it is necessary to make up for the loss of connection to the Earth once gained by walking barefoot (although it is still beneficial to get outside and enjoy the connection that way as well!). |

Bach Flower Remedies were developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the early 20th century out of his concern for mental suffering and the negative effects on the spirit of existing medical treatments. He dreamed of doctors who would understand people as individuals and study human nature rather than test tubes and lab results. And he imagined patients taking charge of their own health by understanding and accepting the needs of their souls, rather than attending to the needs of the body alone. - http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/simple.htm The 38 remedies are designed to be used in combination according to a person's individual needs. For this reason, when you read through the list you are likely to notice more than one that appeals to you. I like the Flower Remedies for several reasons including: 1. the feeling of using a "magic potion" 2. the very specific uses for which each was designed 3. their potential as gifts for someone in need when you are at a loss as to how to help. I have tried a couple of the individual remedies, as well as the Rescue Remedy blend. They have a mild flavour when added to water, and each time you take a sip you are reminded that you are seeking healing for yourself (and again, the "magic potion" thing always makes me smile). Dr. Bach has left a legacy of self-healing resources for our use. His books are available as free downloads on his Centre's website. It turns out that the remedies themselves were never even patented, allowing individuals (or companies) to make their own if they so wished. "This work of healing has been done, and published and given freely so that people like yourselves can help yourselves" - Dr Edward Bach, 1936 Links provided to the left are Bach Flower Remedies available for sale on Amazon.ca |
