Do you ever dream of working from home? Being your own boss? Making money online? Or traveling the world, while working from anywhere? As you have probably heard by now, creating your own website is becoming one popular way to achieve all of the above.
For me, "the dream" is self-employment, doing work that I believe in, and having enough freedom, time and energy to be creative. This is what led me to discover how to build my own website, and explore other ways to make money online as well. Here are some of the tools I have discovered along the way: 1. Ros (she's even Canadian!) Want to create your own website? Everything I've learned about how to make money online, I learned from: The Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner This ebook is packed with practical information, and written in Rosalind's humorous, down-to-earth style. Drawing on her own huge successes and experiences, Ros provides you with all the tips and tricks you need to get you started, with step-by-step instructions and real-life examples. Ros gave me the courage and the information I needed to get started. Highly recommended! To order your copy: Click Here! 2. SBI Looking for even more details and ongoing support while you build your online empire? You don't have to figure it out on your own with programs like SBI! Another invaluable resource for planning and launching your successful e-business: SBI Step-by-step instructions to creating a profitable business online through your own website or blog Tons of support and helpful resources to help you take your online business to the next level. Lots of advice on keywords/SEO. 3. Affiliate Programs A few affiliate program websites you might like to check out if you are interested in monetizing your website (these sites allow you pair up with merchants and earn money for sending them customers through the links on your website). The beauty of affiliate programs is that you can pick and choose what products and companies you want to promote, so you have complete control over your website content; no need to compromise. See banner ads to the right: 4. Want to gain a little online experience first? I got started writing short articles on elance (now Upwork): Freelance opportunities in writing, multimedia, web design business consulting and more! You don't need any experience to get started, but you may have to start by bidding low until you have some feedback. Read the terms carefully and make sure to follow the rules in order to protect yourself and get paid for your work. 5. Look into other websites such as Cafepress, Zazzle or Amazon.ca where you can become an associate or customize your own store. I do make a couple of sales per month from my cafepress shop but always from the marketplace (which earns a smaller commission than if people visit my shop link directly) - I guess I am still developing my marketing skills. However, I love designing my products (and have actually maxed out the number of sections at 500!) It is fun to buy my own designs too. These are not "get rich quick" schemes. I've made the most money online writing freelance articles for elance, but broken down this often meant I was making only $5 an hour after the effort I put into research and quality. Easier: I have made and collected almost $200 on Redgage just for uploading my own blogs and photographs (an online community that showed promise for awhile but seems to have slowed - still have not received my last cheque). It is worth trying a variety of opportunities - just don't "put all your eggs in one basket." In other words... Artsciencespirit.com is a labour of love :) I have been at it for more than 10 years now, with varying levels of commitment and success. However, building my own website is something I enjoy and get satisfaction from, and it continues to grow and evolve, giving me something meaningful to work on no matter where I am, and what else is happening in my life. Having an online business is just so perfect for an HSP (highly sensitive person) :) The latest: have you noticed all those cool shops popping up in your Facebook feed? I've noticed something of interest: many of those online shops were created using Shopify - a pretty cool looking commerce solution offering merchants everything they need to sell anywhere! Shopify merchants can sell online, in-store (POS) and even on Facebook, Amazon or Pinterest. If you are looking to sell your own unique products online, this one seems worth a try.
